The Bitrix Site Manager allows to create and maintain an unlimited number of sites* on the base of one product edition. Generally, a product copy can also be described as a web portal. The latter consists of one or more sites.

Usually, a site is described as an aggregate of the following notions:

  • database records - created in the Sites administration form and includes the following parameters:
    • the identifier - a set of symbols identifying a site;
    • the domain name - one or more site domain names;
    • the site folder - the path to directory in which the site public section is contained;
    • the site language;
    • the date format;
    • the time format;
    • URL - protocol followed by the default domain name (e.g. http://www.site.com);
    • DocumentRoot - when the second method (described later) is used to implement the multiple site support, this parameter must contain the path to the site root in the server file system;
    • template application conditions - each site can have one or more templates to display the scripts of their public section; each of these templates can be applied conditionally;
  • public section - an aggregate of site scripts (pages) stored in the site folder;
  • settings - each system module can have a number of settings related to a site.
    For example, the Information blocks module settings represent how an information block is bound to a site, while the Technical support module settings have statuses, ticket categories etc. bound to a site.

In the public section, the ID of a current site is stored in the SITE_ID constant.

*  - The number of sites based on one product copy is restricted by the licensing policy.
