A Trackback is the method for blog authors to request notification when somebody links to one of their documents. This enables authors to keep track of who is linking to, or referring to their articles. This helps to avoid duplicating an article in many blogs: if a blog post extends messages in other blogs, it is sufficient to place a link to the article in question in comments to relevant articles in other blogs.
