You can manage blogs in the public section by using commands of the context bar that is displayed on every page of the blog section.

To start managing blogs, you have to authorise (Log in button) or register (Registration button) in the system:

Commands of the context bar depend on the currently displayed page and the current user permissions.

For example, a blog owner will enjoy the following commands when viewing the blog review page:

  • Blog List - opens a page containing the outline of all blogs;
  • My blog - opens the blog of a current user;
  • My profile - opens the current user profile for editing;
  • Friends Page - displays recent messages of users that are friends of a current user;
  • Logout - end the authorised session.

A user viewing pages of their own blog will see the following commands:

Creating a blog

An example that can be found in the trial version opens the blog creation form when a visitor clicks the Create blog link on the blog review page:

This link is displayed if:

  • the current user does not have a blog on a current site;
  • the current user is a member of a user group that is given a permission to create blogs.

Editing blog parameters

By clicking the Blog settings button:. Please note that the administrator can modify all blogs.

The blog settings page has almost the same layout and preferences as the blog creation page:

However, it contains the following additional parameters:

  • Open groups (1*) - contains user groups to which all newcomers can be added without the permission of a blog author. This field is available if only at least one group exists (blog groups can be created by the blogger or site administrator);

    Note: The groups: All users and Registsred users are predefined.
  • Default access (2*): defines the default access permission for the blog user groups. Permissions can be fine-tuned for each post individually.

Creating a post

If a current user is allowed to create posts in the current blog, the New message button is availabe:

An author can set additional access permissions for visitors:

The new message can be published immediately upon creation, or it can be saved as a draft:

Those messages are stored in the draft message list that can be accessed by clicking the respective button:

Adding comments

Visitors can add comments to posts on the post details page.

If a current blog can be commented and a current user's group has permissions to create comments (in the blog or in the post), the Add comment link will be available at the bottom of a page:

This link opens a comment creation form:

To add a comment to an existing one, click Reply below the comment:

The page also displays the two links: Parent and Link at the bottom of each multilevel comment block:

The Parent link navigates to a comment to which the current one is added. Link allows to copy the URL of a desired comment:

If any comment is added to a post, a special link indicating the current number of comments appears below the post:

Managing the current user profile

To edit or view parameters of the profile, users can click the My profile button on the context toolbar in the public section:

This will open the User profile page:

Finally, clicking the "edit user profile" link (outlined in red on the figure above) opens the profile editing form:

Using message tags

The Tags button opens a form in which users can create and manage tags that define names of categories (e.g. Hints, Music etc.) to which the subject of a post can be referred.

The tag creation form is more than simple:



Clicking Add inserts a new empty text entry field to create more tags.

In future, when creating a new post, users can select the required tag to indicate the post subject:

Tagging allows blog visitors to pick out messages that relate to a certain subject in which a visitor has a particular interest. To view messages under a certain tag, visitors can use links displayed on the right:

Adding users (friends)

A user can add friends to the blog on the Friends page, which can be opened by clicking the respective button:

The Friends page displays a simple form where a user can add friends by nickname, login or blog name:

After clicking Add, a user will be added to the friend candidate list:

Click More fields to add a new row to enter more friends.

You can change the user's membership in groups by clicking the Edit link. To remove a user from your friends, click Delete.

You can also add another user to you friends list when reading that user's blog. To do so, click the Add to friends button:

To become a friend of this user, click the Become a friend button:

To view messages that your friends wrote recently, click the Friends page button on the context toolbar:

 

Managing user groups

The user groups are used to distinct visitors of your blog and give them different access permissions. To start managing user groups, click Groups settings:

Customization of user group access permissions is performed in the blog parameters editing page, in the public section:

The below are the two examples of using blog user groups:

  1. Blog user groups can be used to manage permissions to access the blog and blog messages. You can add users to groups on the Friends page.

    This page displays all users that are your friend candidates:

    Click Edit to open the friend settings form, in which you can bind the user to the required groups:

    Note: If there are any public groups in the blog settings, users will be added to those groups automatically.
  2. When creating a post, an author can define access permissions for each group individually:
