Bitrix Site Manager

Support for Multiple Sites

The Bitrix Site Manager features creation of unlimited number of sites with the use of a single copy (license) of the product, keeping a single installation of the system kernel and database on the server.

When building a site, you usually install the system to the root directory and then create static pages and files intended for output in different language mirrors in corresponding subdirectories of the root directory. If you create more than one site on the same server, you would have to install the system in the root directories of each site. This approach is evidently inefficient and results in absolute decentralization of project management.

The Bitrix Site Manager system had been developed taking into account requirements of companies that may need to maintain multiple sites (e.g. language mirrors or subject directories). Web design studios will also find this feature useful as it allows to neatly arrange multiple projects with the same hosting. The multiple sites concept requires substantially less resources and allows to manage all sites from the single control point.

The Bitrix Site Manager kernel allows the use of the following URL types to identify sites controlled by the system:

For example, to create two sites without having to install the system in the root directories of each site, or to create two sites not distributing them to subdirectories of the root directory, you have to create two web servers (or virtual hosts) with different root folders and create symbolic links to folders /bitrix and /upload using the operation system tools.

Thus, common entities for all projects are folders /bitrix and /upload and the database. Sites are distinguished by static pages and a field Site of the database objects (news, polls etc.)
